Earthquake at Dawn
This book, by Kristiana Gregory, about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake was a very mediocre novel. I enjoy reading non fiction, however this book was rather unappealing. It followed some of the journeys of, at the time, twenty-two-year-old photographer Edith Irvine. The book did include some of the photographs I believe Irvine actually took during this natural disaster. The book is based on the story of Edith Irvine, but is told by Daisy Valentine, a domestic helper. One would think that a book about an earthquake would be riviting and action-packed, but it was a very long sad story. I would not recommend this book.

Ohh, that sucks. I hate it when a book doesn't perform.
ReplyDeleteWas what actually happened interesting, though? As in if, like me, you knew nothing previously about the 1906 earthquake, did the book teach you something about it?
Cause if it didn't, then... wow. Sucky book times gajillion.
Well I too always found historical fiction quite nice. I have always wanted to know how the San Francisco earthquake affected people. Well perhaps the point of view of Edith Irvine wasn't the right of person to tell about this natural disaster. The most I have ever read about this earthquake was the magic tree house books and I believe it was called earthquake in the early morning it was good. But is also recommend for 9-11 year olds.
